…..Though, Power is taken and not given, but on Equity we stand!

Since the return of democracy in 1999, various stakeholders have fashioned out ways of ensuring that political posts go round the recognized parts or clans of their constituencies.

Prior to the swearing in of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as president, the two most prominent political parties viz a viz the APP AND PDP, zoned the presidency to the South West this was done in order to douse the post Abiola election crisis.

Since then till now, political wards and enclaves have continued to zone certain offices to some parts in pursuit of equity and justice. In 1999, it was zoned to the Yoruba Nation. And in Imo, it was given to Orlu man, Chief Achike Udenwa. In 2007 after the reign of Obasanjo, it was given to Hausa/Fulani by name, Umaru Musa Yar’dua

Just as currently being discussed, it is 100 percent immoral for any Northerner to jostle for the Presidency, very out of place for any South Southerner and South Westerner. They all have had their shots at the plum position of the presidency.

It is morally justified for a Core Igbo man from the South East, not minding his party, to be elected as President of this Country.

Down to our dear Ikeduru, there are two major blocs, East and West. From 1999, Dr. Emeka Ukaegbu, Rt. Hon. Kelechi Nwagwu, Chief Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, Hon. Ted. Oguwuike and finally Rt. Hon. Uche Ogbuagu.

The Senator, Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu had two terms being from Ikeduru East and he handed over to Hon. Barr Ted. Oguwuike from Ikeduru West

He was replaced by Rt. Hon. Uche Ogbuagu who was returned elected and declared winner. Hon. Ogbuagu is about completing his first tenure of four years. He has made it clear at various fora that, for equity sake, he would be in office for only one term.

When asked what his reasons were, he said four years of Hon. Oguwuike and four years of Ogbuagu makes it 8 years which Samdaddy from Ikeduru East represented Ikeduru. He declared that, it is obvious power will go back to Ikeduru East once again.

It baffles me how individuals from Ikeduru west are jumping around asking for power to be retained in the area, whereas those same individuals are angling for igbo Presidency under equity. I ask, what equity when they are asking for power retention?

For equity and justice, Ikeduru East should without reservations or restraints, produce the next house of Assembly Member for the Constituency.
