Member representing Awka North constituency at the Anambra State, Hon John Ifechukwu Nwokoye, has secured the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the Anambra seat in the 2023 general elections.
Hon. Nwokoye emerged the party’s consensus candidate, at the Awka North Local Government (LG) Party Office in Achalla, following the withdrawal of the possible main challenger and former aspirant in 2019, Prince Charles Okoye, weeks before the primaries.
He emerged through affirmation by delegates from the 14 wards that made up the LG at the primaries and witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The affirmation was conducted under the supervision of the committee from the PDP National Secretariat and INEC officials as observers, and with the returning officer, Mr Anthony Chukwunweike announcing as winner with 43 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Hon John Nwokoye said that his emergence would spur him toward more effective representation to the people.
The lawmaker also commended all the party delegates for their support and solidarity to him in ensuring he clinched the party’s State House of Assembly ticket.
He, however, promised not to betray the trust reposed in him, and to promote their interests when he returns to the hallowed chamber.
Nwokoye, went on to declare that the outcome of the election was true reflection of the wishes of the people who were satisfied with his purposeful representation and outstanding performance in the State House of Assembly.
In his words “I urge us all to join hands together in the struggle to give our party, the PDP the desired victory at the 2023 general elections,’’_ he said.
Reacting to the victory, one of the party stakeholder in Awka North, Hon. KG Enemuo, a one time former commissioner for lands and lawmaker, expressed satisfaction at the conduct of the primaries and the emergence of Hon. Nwokoye.
He assured him of his total support and that of the PDP family.
