The ruling party had just concluded its national convention, where the presidential primary election took place. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the national leader of the party and former Lagos State Governor, emerged as the flag bearer, having polled 1,271 delegate votes.

Other aspirants like Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo couldn’t attain up to half the votes the party’s national leader scored as they polled 316 and 235 votes, respectively. Senator

Ahmed Lawan, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Prof. Ben Ayade of Cross River State, and Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, came in fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh place, respectively, having scored 152, 47, 37, and 28 delegates’ votes.

During the coalition of votes, the organisers disclosed that 13 votes were invalid. Sen. Dino Melaye used this medium to mock the aspirants who scored less than the invalid votes.
