Since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) gave political parties until Friday, June 17th, 2022, to declare their presidential candidates and their running mates, the ruling party commenced deliberations, and this seems to be concluding soon.
The Daily Post reported that Aswiaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has submitted the name of Kabir Ibrahim Masari as his running mate.
Reports revealed that Kabir Ibrahim Masari, who comes from President Buhari’s hometown, was submitted only temporarily until the National Working Committee (NWC) and other stakeholders in the party decide on a suitable running mate for Tinubu.
This report was affirmed by a source within the APC, adding that there was an ongoing consultative process. The source revealed that Tinubu and President Buhari would meet to discuss today.
The reasons for this delay could be traced to the strong opposition to the Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Some possible running mates, like the former Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State and the incumbent Governor Ganduje of Kano State, were nominated by the party’s governors.
