Former Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Deputy Governor of Edo State Mr Benjamin Atu has fired back at the former commissioner for information in the State Prince Kassim Afegbua over his unguarded utterances at the Arise Television interview where he challenged the choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and accused him of accepting to become the running mate to the PDP candidate Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
He described the attacks of Afegbua against Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as needless and a mere alarmists approach to serious issues to seek undue attention and Olive branch.
Benjamin Atu who accused him of unstable integrity said, Afegbua seems to be rooted in the past and blindfolded by his hate for Atiku Abubakar.
“Even if Atiku has appointed a firebrand angel from heaven, Kassim would still have found fault with the angel. He does not see anything good about others except himself. Afegbua is Mr. perfect and Mr. knows it all. Nigeria needs dependable and reliable leaders and not a perfect President like Afegbua is painting”
According to him, Kassim Afegbua has turned the Nigerian media into a vehicle of propaganda where he cloned truths to manipulate public opinion to achieve his selfish interest. In all Afegbua’s presentations, the facts are usually suppressed and falsehood is preached. A man who has no record of achievements as a commissioner ought to be hiding his head in shame and not borrow moral ground to speak about national development when he could not demonstrate what he is seeking to spearhead from his home town.”
Atu who is the Media Aide to the Edo North Senator wonder why Afegbua was waiting for Governor Okowa to reject his nomination as a running mate to his Party presidential candidate? Who is Kassim to dictate for the Governor of Delta State? even though Okowa has been hosting the South-South Governors to produce a South-South President. He could not have single handedly produced a South-South President. He is a party man and a candidate has emerged from the party it behoves all to support the winner. It is about Nigeria and not a regional fight.
Unfortunately, Mr Afegbua who happens to be my own elder brother and uncle has suddenly become a blackmailer. We are yet to know those pushing him against Atiku Abubakar.
Atu maintained that the defection threat of Afegbua from the PDP will be a great relief to the party and the party will coast to victory in 2023 without him. Kassim once vowed in 2020 that Obaseki cannot become a Governor without him, Governor Obaseki won his election and with or without Kassim Afegbua, Atiku Abubakar and Governor Okowa will emerge victorious in the 2023 General election Atu assured.
