Bianca Ojukwu, the widow of the late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumeka Ojukwu, has described the time she faced the “stingy” attitude of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
The Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, described Obi as stingy on Wednesday, provoking harsh responses from his supporters.
On her Facebook page, she said, “On Peter Obi’s alleged stinginess.” She recalled when Obi, then the governor of Anambra State, visited Texas and opted for a $220 suit instead of a fancy suit for an event.
She stated, “The suit that was a wonderful fit for him was a stylish Tom Ford suit that cost $3,985 including tax.” He did the math and asked me, “Do you know how many Nigerian students this amount of money could train?”
“To make a long story short, he refused to pay what he called “that absurd sum” for the Tom Ford suit, and that’s how we ended up at Steinmart, where he agreed to pay $220, tax included, for a basic men’s suit that he was pleased to wear to the evening’s event.
“When we were on our way to the airport to send him off for his return flight to Nigeria, he dug into his pocket and pulled out an envelope containing $3,800.”
He called her Anyanwu, “This is the remainder of the payment I would have made for the Ford suit.” If the label on the suit read, “Peter Obi,” I wonder if anyone in the United States would pay that price for it. I shopped. Please utilize this balance to assist individuals in genuine need through your charity foundation. I have faith you will do so. We all shared hearty laughter.”
Mrs. Ojukwu then listed the recipients of Obi’s contribution through her organization.
