The house and church complex of one of the most flamboyant Church Overseers in the country Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanemere a.k.a Odumeje General Overseer of The Lion Family congregation has been demolished by the Anambra state government.
The church which is known as God’s Intervention Ministry located at Creek / Bida road Fegge Onitshe South local government area is said to have been built on top of water channel and major flood plane had earlier been marked for demolition before now.
Recall that Gov Charles Soludo had announced that part of his administration”s policy of Urban Renewal in Onitsha and the entire Okpoko in Ogbaru local government area was to remove all illegal structures in order to achieve the desired goal.
According to Soludo while on a visit to Okpoko town; “we are committed towards achieving the policy of Urban Renewal in Okpoko and parts of Onitsha because those areas has lots of potentials ready to be exploited and any building or structure found to be obstructing the flow of flood would certainly go down.”
Inhabitants of Fegge and those that attend Odumeje’s Church however confirmed that the church hall sometimes is flooded during the dry season adding that the building appears to be resting on a sewage plane that flushes human waste to the Onitsha- Central canal.
Similarly about thirty more buildings in that area have been marked for demolition by the state government following the confirmation that they were built on a flood and water plane.
Following the demolition of the church, inhabitants in the area have commenced the process of relocation as it was gathered that a directive was given to them two days after Soludo was inaugurated as governor.
Also those living in Okpoko who suspect that their residence would be affected by the demolition exercise have started relocating in good time in order not to be caught napping.
Similarly Soludo had earlier convened a meeting of landlords in Okpoko and parts of Onitsha on government plans for the Urban Renewal project stressing the need for the demolition.
Citypost gathered that when contacted on phone Odumeje did not pick his calls and there is no officer of the church that could speak on his behalf.
Meanwhile, members of the Anambra State Task Force were captured in a video clip beating and pushing the man of God around as a voice was heard shouting “put him inside the car!”
