…As mothers, you are at prime position to address the societal ills affecting the land
…You are the light of our homes
Previous weeks were busy for the candidate of Zenith Labour Party(ZLP) for Oyi/Ayamelum federal constituency in 2023 general election, Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu as he traversed and joined denominational cum inter-denominational annual women convergence of the communities in the federal constituency on their yearly ‘August Meeting’.
Speaking at some of the visited Churches and gathering, Dr. Nwachukwu described women role especially in upholding family values as of great importance.
He noted that God has made women companions and help mates to men, thereby urging them not to shy away from their primary role of upholding family values, describing well instituted families as good foundation for great nations.
Nwachukwu said; “You are the light of our homes. Without you in our homes, the family will be like a table without legs”.
The medical practitioner harped on the need women should take the upcoming election seriously. According to him, societal ills like drug abuse, bad pear tutoring, robbery have eaten deep into the very fabrics of the society, especially among the youth, saying that the vices emanated mostly owing to the kind of leaders at helms of affairs that have left teeming youth unemployed and impoverished and called on mothers to effect possible change by electing leaders that will be purpose-driven in 2023.
He said; “As mothers, you are at prime position to address the societal ills affecting the land such as the scourge of” mkpulumiri” and other ill-assorted drugs destroying the youth. The issue of dangerous drug abuse should deeply command the attention of the women at this year’s August Meeting.
“Home training is a natural turf for the women, and a well-brought-up child can hardly ever go the way of taking mind-bending drugs that induce the intake of so-called ‘mkpulumiri’. But when university graduates and secondary school leavers don’t have means of livelihood government ought to provide, they embrace social vices.
“Do not blame a youth that has made taking of ‘mkpụrụmmiri’ a routine, but rather blame the government and legislative representatives of the poor youth that have kept them in that condition. If those representing them had done the necessary things as representatives of the people, it will never be so.
“The real time has come again and you must take advantage of this opportunity. Don’t only effect a lasting change only in your homes. In 2023, make use of the strength of your PVC and get yourself a better society you deserve. I am contesting to represent our federal constituency, not because i want to amass wealth. My job as an orthopaedic surgeon and medical doctor pays me well. I was moved into the race to bring about emancipation in representational governance. I want you to trust that when I get into office by the grace of God, I will give you what belongs to you.
“Do not allow anyone to deceive you with fat and mouthwatering amount that will only serve you for weeks to sell the future of your children. Politicians will come with all manner of confusion but do not listen to them. Those representing you all these years, have they been able to deliver to you the dividends of democracy? Why then do you want to imprison yourself again for another period of 4 years. Stop voting for politicians who only come around during elections”.
The women commended the efforts of the Medical Director, Princeton Specialist Hospital and Orthopaedic Center Awka for his untiring zeal and courage towards bringing change to the agrarian federal constituency in 2023, praying God Almighty to always guide and protect him.
