Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Patrick Fakoya, popularly known as Rico Swavey, is dead. His death was announced on Thursday morning by his friend and colleague, Tobi Bakre.
The reality TV star was involved in a car accident on Tuesday in Lagos, and members of the public had taken to social media to pray for him when the news of the accident broke out.
The hashtag #PrayForRicoSwavey began to trend online, as a photo of Rico lying down in a hospital with several devices plugged to his body was shared all over social media.
In a recent report by BBC News Pidgin, Rico’s family has released a statement about his death. In the statement which was shared via Rico’s verified Twitter handle, they wrote – “We lost him… We lost our boy.”
Another former BBN housemate and one of Rico’s good friends, Alex Unusual, had also made a post about Rico’s condition, and had called on Nigerians to pray for him. In a recent tweet which was shared by BBC News Pidgin, she has also reacted to the news of her death.
She wrote – “This is not what we agreed, Rico. Rest in peace, Rico Swavey.”
The news of Rico’s death came to many with deep shock. The 29-year-old had been in the entertainment industry for some time, but propelled to limelight after taking part in “The Double Wahala” edition of the Big Brother Naija show in 2018.
We pray for his soul to rest in peace, and for God to grant his family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.
