I have listened to the supporters of some unpopular candidates in Labour party whose campaign strategy is using Peter Obi’s acceptance to canvass for votes.
Those candidates have commissioned their supporters to preach for Top-Bottom voting pattern where voters are being told to vote for only Labour candidates from President to Governor to Senate to House of Reps to state assembly.
These unpopular candidates in Labour party have nothing to campaign for except Top-Bottom. Some of them are failed politicians who lost party tickets in their previous parties and defected to Labour Party because of Peter Obi.
If care is not taken, these failed candidates running under labour will destroy the chances of winning the February 25 presidential election.
Obi has supporters across party line. There are members of APC, PDP, YPP, APGA, ZLP etc who are openly supporting Obi for President. These large number of voters from other political parties who are also mobilizing support for the Labour party Presidential candidate should not be taken for granted.
The 2023 presidential election is a 3-horse direct race between Obi, Atiku and Tinubu. Obi needs every vote to emerge victorious. Therefore, other candidates in Labour party should carefully go about their campaigns without trying to cause disaffection between Obi and his supporters from other political parties.
If these supporters from other political parties should withdraw their votes, it will definitely affect the number of votes Obi will secure in the poll. Therefore, other candidates in Labour party should stop this rascal approach of Top to Bottom campaign.
Obi is a candidate of all of us irrespective of political affiliations but when it gets to other elective positions, we have different candidates and choices to make.
I have said it before that our 100% votes for president are for Peter Obi. Senate, governor, house of reps and house of assembly will be determined by competence, antecedent, acceptance and popularity of each candidate irrespective of party.
But if these other candidates from Labour party continue to cause disaffection and confusion in their top to bottom campaign jingle and Obi fails to do the needful, some of us who are anti top to bottom may start campaigning for the same top to bottom in the political parties where we may have major stake.
