
The Defence Headquarters, on Thursday, said that its soldiers have arrested suspects posing as officials of the National Identity Management Commission in order to register and enrol foreigners in Niger Republic for the National Identification Number.
According to Channels TV, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Musa Danmadami, made this known during a bi-weekly press conference at the Defence Headquarters on Thursday.
Danmadami said that the suspects were at the Gagamari Internally Displaced Persons camp in Niger Republic to carry out NIN registrations for non-Nigerians.
“On October 13, 2022, troops in conjunction with the Nigeria Police and NIS operatives intercepted two suspected fake National Identity Management Commission officials. It was revealed that the suspects had visited Gagamari IDP camp in Niger Republic to register non-Nigerian in the IDP camp. Items recovered from the suspects include National Identification Number (NIN) registration machine, printing machine, laminating machine, a computer tracking machine and a generator set among other items,” Danmadami said.
