As the country keenly awaits the 2023 general elections, candidates have been rallying around the country to garner support for their bid. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has not been left out, as he has been moving across various regions of the country to get support.
In recent times, Obi, despite being a Christian and an Igbo man, has been visiting Islamic clerics in the far north, perhaps to seek their blessings and support. In this article, we shall be featuring two prominent Islamic clerics whom Peter Obi has visited in his quest for the presidential seat come 2023.
(1) Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
Sheikh Gumi is a controversial Islamic cleric and a former military officer. He is the Mufti and Mufassir of the Kaduna Central Mosque, popularly called Sultan Bello Mosque.
A few weeks back, during a visit to Kaduna, Obi visited the cleric at his house. His visit to Gumi sparked a reaction among members of the public owing to the clerics’ unpopular opinion of negotiating with bandits instead of using military offensives against the unscrupulous elements.
(2) Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
Sheikh Bauchi is a prominent Islamic cleric who is the head of the Tijaniyyah sect in Nigeria.
Yesterday, photos of the LP candidate with Sheikh Bauchi in Bauchi state surfaced online. During his visit to Bauchi, Peter Obi also visited the Emir of Bauchi.
