Following the campaign of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) ahead of the general election, some governors in the party have decided to choose their presidential candidate despite the party candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. The decision was made by governor Wike and some of his allies who are among the top leaders of the party on their preferred choice of who to vote for.
The decision made by the governor of River state and his allies was a result of the issues going on in the party calling for the resignation of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu. The issue has also brought grievance in the party over northerners dominating the key positions in the party. The aggrieved Governors and other stakeholders have decided not to vote for the party presidential candidate, Atiku.
A source from Gov. Wike’s camp who was interviewed by the Daily Independent said that Governor Wike and his allies have chosen their preferred candidate and they are not voting for Atiku. Adding that they choose to vote for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, while in the Senatorial and governorship, they will vote for their party candidates.
