A prominent Nigerian journalist, Rufai Oseni, has reacted to the move by the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde (a PDP leader), to support the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, ahead of next year’s poll. Speaking on VOP, Rufai noted that Makinde’s move could have some consequences after some Oyo state PDP leaders registered their displeasure on the matter.
Addressing the topic, Rufai said, “The issues in the PDP are not going anywhere, as they have come to stay.” The former deputy governor of Oyo State was also at Tinubu’s meeting with Fasoranti. Indications that Makinde is tilting toward the APC presidential candidate could split the PDP in Oyo State. However, Makinde should also remember that he might think that he has been able to consolidate, but he is up against a very qualified politician in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin.
He continued, “Folarin is a former senator and a former governorship candidate.” I do not know how Makinde will support Tinubu next year if that is the case. Makinde should tread carefully, as he does not need division in the party at the moment. Even without division, Folarin is a grounded politician who is arguably more experienced than Makinde. It is a fierce battle for him.
