All is not well within Enugu PDP as the gubernatorial candidate, Peter Mbah flees from his godfathers.
Inside sources reveal that Peter does not want to be seen with or near former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani. He barely takes his calls and has repeatedly expressed exasperation with his former boss’s overbearing behaviour and his series of attacks on ordinary people at the slightest opportunity.
Peter has attributed his low acceptability by the electorate to his association with the former Governor whose tenure was characterized by killings and massive corruption.
His second nemesis, the current Governor on the other hand is reportedly insistent that no significant decisions can be taken by the guber candidate without express clearance by him. While the candidate is reportedly unhappy about the situation, he has taken it with equanimity.
It is for this reason that Peter neither invites the former Governor nor the current Governor to campaign events in the hope that the electorate will forget that he is a stooge to the two most unwanted men in Enugu State. A ruse that has been rendered useless by the new political consciousness of the people.
While Mbah aggressively tries to create the possibility of following Governor Chime’s footsteps of rendering his godfather and predecessor politically irrelevant and chasing them out of the State, the reality remains that the ties between them are unbreakable even though unfavourable for his governorship quest. His name is a constant appendage to his boss’s name in cases of fraud, embezzlement and money laundering, while his campaign promises lead with praises for the current administration that is obviously a failure in every ramification. This pretentious attempt to pull himself away from his benefactors is bound to continue to rip the party apart.
It may be recalled that following the sham party primaries in May this year, several of the PDP heavyweights were openly humiliated by Governor Ugwuanyi as he had secretly assured them all individually that they were going to be his successor, knowing fully well that he had traded the guber ticket as though Enugu is his personal estate.
In spite of staged reconciliations, endless ‘thank you’ tours and numerous attempts to patch things up with these major PDP stakeholders, the party has lost any cohesion. This, coupled with the dismal performance of the current administration and the people’s sentiments against the PDP has clearly jeopardized their chances in the 2023 elections.
