The people of Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State on the 6th day of January 2023, elected a monarch after several years without a traditional ruler as a result of conflicts of various degrees which rocked the community in the past.
The election which was suppevised by a team from Anambra State Ministry Of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, saw Chief Barr Ngini as the winner.
Before the commencement of Election a total number of 795 people were accreditated
ii.67 of the accredited persons did not vote.
iii 24 cast were invalid.
iv Chief Barr Ngini Scored=375
v. Chief Okeke Scored=329
Having Polled a total of 375 Votes cast against his opponent Chief Okeke who scored 329 votes, Chief Barr Ngini was declared the winner and the Igwe Elect .
Speaking after the election, the Igwe Elect, Chief Ngini expressed his joy
that the election was peaceful. And thanked the people of Isuaniocha community for finding him worthy to serve them in the capacity of a traditional ruler and promise not to fail them.
Going further, the Igwe elect lauded Mr Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo CFR for his determination to ensure that all the community in the state have a legitimate leadership. He also commended Mr Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Tonycollins Nwabunwanne whom he described as a unifier,for using his office to restore peace in the community, encouraging him to keep up his good works. He also stressed that the community could have remained in conflict if not for the commissioner’s determinations and efforts toward returning peace to them.
In his own reaction, Chief Donatus Okeke, the opponent who came second in the Igweship contest, describe the process as peaceful and thank the good people of Isuaniocha for their support. In the same vein he congratulated Chief Barr Mkpuorah Ngini.
