The President of the Senate, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan has reacted to the clamor by the Labour Party And Peoples Democratic that the INEC results should be transmitted on BVAS. The Senate President has alleged that there is nothing like electronic transmission of results in the electoral act in which they passed few months ago.
Senator Lawan speaking in a press conference stated that the opposition parties have to read through the law and understand it very well. He pointed out that the manual results being collated at the polling unit remains valid and a trusted result to be followed by the returning officer. According to him, the House Of Assembly is charging the INEC to follow strictly the electoral act.
He said, ”In the electoral act that we passed, there is nothing like electronic transmission of results. Because the transmission is when you go to the server, what we passed is to transfer all the paper works. The agents, security and everybody there will have the paper. INEC Will scan the result sheet and transfer. And for me, if any results that was captured and sent differ from the manual result. That one is illegal. So we are asking that INEC should follow the electoral law.”
