Frank Nweke Jr, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance cast his vote at PU 002, Nkwo Market Ward, Ozalla.
He addressed newsmen immediately after, citing reports of violence and voter intimidation by the People’s Democratic Party in many parts of Enugu State.
He stated that reports from Nsukka, Udenu, Isi Uzo and some parts of Enugu Urban indicated that thugs hired by the ruling party were restricting voters from exercising their civic duties in some polling units, while other polling units reported ongoing vote buying.
“In Maryland, there is a gentleman who has been identified as Freedom Nnam threatening to beat up voters if they vote for any other party besides the PDP. We have also received reports of alleged compromised officials of the security services and ‘fake officers’ attacking voters.”
He also revealed that the APGA House of Assembly candidate for Udenu, Chijioke Ezeugwu was attacked and almost killed this morning at his house, while the five polling units closest to him were cordoned off by men wearing security outfits.
While noting a general improvement in the election process, he called on the Police and Military high command to step in immediately and curb the menace.
