
Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor has denied working against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 presidential election. Wike said, “I take exception to Peter Obi’s comments that I came out against him. People are not being sincere, people are not appreciative. In 2019, ask Peter Obi, I was one of the teams that chose Obi to be the Vice Presidential candidate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. When we met at Abubakar’s house, he said these are the names, I will choose Obi.”
According to information gathered from Channels Television, Governor Wike went on to say, “Obi was invited while we were at Saraki’s house in the night. I was fought by people like Umahi, Pius Ayim, and Ekweremadu. Every blame was on me, why will I be the one that will say Peter Obi should go?
It should be recalled that in less than a year, Peter Obi, after decamping to the Labour Party was able to galvanize young voters in an unprecedented way in the history of Nigeria’s democracy and finished the race with 6,101,533. It will interest you to note that following Peter Obi’s loss to Bola Tinubu of the APC who was declared president-elect by INEC, Nigerian youths have accused Wike of betrayal.
It was gathered that during a media chat with some selected journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Wike revealed that he only advised the people of Rivers State to vote for the unity of the country.
