Making Orji Uzor Kalu Or Godswill Akpabio The Next Senate President Is Incentivising Failure- Adamu Garba

A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Adamu Garba has insinuated making Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor or Senator Godswill Akpabio the next Senate President is incentivising failure.

Adamu Garba who is supporting Senator Barau Jibrin from the Northwest for the position made the remark in an interview in TVC.

When asked about his opinion on zoning of the Senate presidency to either the Southeast or South-South for balancing?

Adamu Garba said, “frankly speaking, I think we should pay attention to competence and performance than zoning when it comes to our calibration of political power in Nigeria now.

Let’s look at the argument about the Southeast and the South-South when it is zoned. When you go back to the Southeast for instance, we have some aspirants who came out. Most eminently among them is Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a gentleman. Similarly when you go back to the South-South, we also have Senator Akpabio, also a gentleman.”

All of them are proud APC members, we are proud of them and there is nothing bad we can say against them. But then let’s look at their performances in the outcome of the last election, Orji Uzor Kalu succeeded by coming back to the Senate by getting over 40,000 votes. Now what is the votes of the president elect in his zone where he was able to win to come back to the Senate? It’s like 8000 votes.

So when you can give yourself over 40,000 votes and give the president elect 8000 votes on the same time, same day of the election with the same people, then it signifies rejection. And we should not take rejection in politics as something we have to conceal, just by giving more reward to someone who failed. When you reward somebody who failed you are incentivising failure. And the APC with Asiwaju administration, I don’t think this is the drive. There is no way failure can be incentivised.
