Wole Soyinka, a renowned Nigerian writer and essayist, has been criticizing the Labour Party and its supporters for their opposition to the result of the 2023 presidential election.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu announced Chief Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner, but the Labour Party and its followers have been vocal in their disagreement. During interviews, Soyinka expressed his disapproval of the Obidients Movement’s remarks and behavior in response to the election.
Responding to Soyinka’s criticism on Twitter, Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, expressed pride in the Obidients Movement’s efforts to create a new Nigeria and dismantle the country’s corrupt structures.
He argued that a cultist who admits to being part of a “wasted generation” has no right to condemn the movement’s divine goals.
In his own words, He said, “I am so very proud to be an Obidient fighting for a new Nigeria and a cultist who is part of a self confessed wasted generation has no moral right to condemn a divine movement fighting for the destruction of the structure of criminality, corruption and impunity of that generation.”
