
…….Tasks Them To Give Their All For The State
The Governor-Elect of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, on Friday, April 14, set up a high-powered Transition Council in Aba, the economic nerve center of the state.
The Transition Council, made up of top notch technocrats and skilled professionals, were charged with preparing the ground for a smooth transition of power to the new incoming government in Abia State.
Among the responsibilities of the Council is to shape and formulate a policy that will guide the soon to be sworn in administration of Dr. Alex Otti, come May 29th, 2023.
According to the Governor-elect, the members of the committee, who are drawn from every part of the state and beyond, must see this as an opportunity to selflessly serve the people of Abia State.
While speaking on behalf of the members of the Transition Council, the Chairman of the council, Victor Onyenkpa (CEO of KPMG), thanked the Governor-elect, and promised to carry out this duty wholeheartedly.
The Keynote Speaker of the event, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke virtually through Skype, rolled out some recommendations for the incoming governor, among some of the recommendations are:
- To think disruptive strategies, rather than the traditional way.
- Attracting international businesses into the state and raising the local supply chain.
- Access to power; look at how to leverage renewable energy in Abia State. Households can be powered by renewable energy.
- Internally Generated Revenue: How to expand the revenue base of the state and depend less on the Federal Government.
- Aba has to be the focal point of infrastructural development.
- Healthcare must be given urgent attention and investment. 90% of pharmaceutical products are imported into the country, it is important to attract pharmaceutical companies to Abia.
- Governance: There must be transparency in our finances. Let’s set an example in Abia for good governance and financial transparency.
The venue of the epoch making event was colorfully filled with eggheads, as excitement and hope rendered in the air.
