Alhaji Mujahideen Asari Dokubo, has made a fervent appeal to opposition candidates. He urged them to set aside their differences and extend congratulations to the President-elect based on a genuine sense of fairness.
In a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, Dokubo, who led a group of demonstrators in support of Tinubu to the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling on a petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the President-elect and his running mate, Kashim Shettima, emphasized that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi should follow the example set by former President Goodluck Jonathan. Dokubo called upon them to graciously congratulate Tinubu as the legitimate victor of the 2023 presidential elections.
Furthermore, the former Niger-Delta militant expressed his disappointment with Tinubu’s opponents, accusing them of exploiting ethnic and religious sentiments to undermine the President-elect’s resounding triumph in the recently concluded elections.
Quoting the exact statement released by Alhaji Asari Mujahid Dokubo, he said, “Most Igbos will remain blind and never see the truth that you can’t compare Obi with Tinubu. They think they can coerce the people. They think they can intimidate us. I want to appeal to these two men to have a conscience and stop distracting us. They should withdraw their cases and go back home. Why are we always destroying our institutions? These men know they lost the election. Why will they not be like Goodluck Jonathan and congratulate Asiwaju? Instead, they are whipping up religious, ethnic, and regional sentiments. I have always said that people should hold me responsible if Asiwaju fails.”
