A report in some section of the media accused the octopus squad led by SP Chidiebere Ijioma of harassing and arresting the members of their community indiscriminately.
But in a phone conversation with our correspondent, the President General of Amechi-Uwani autonomous community, Hon. Ifeanyi Nnaji said the story isn’t true and they never authorised anyone to write on their behalf as he has never received report of Police harassment from any member of his community as the leader.
Hon. Nnaji said the petitioner, one Obinna Ugwu is unknown to their community, stressing that their counsel is Barr. Chika Smart Ogbe.
“We’ve never authorised against the police or anyone and if anybody is parading himself as our representative, he’s a liar. As the PG, I don’t know any Obinna Ugwu.
“We’ve a duly constituted Town union executives and we never asked our Lawyer, Barr. Smart Ogbe to write anything on our behalf. Should any petition emanate from us, it must come via our letterhead and my name will be there. Anything short of that is fraud.”
On the alleged police harassment, Hon. Nnaji maintained that “nobody has ever brought such thing to us. No member of our community has ever brought such complaint to them.”
Asked about his relationship with SP Chidiebere, the President General said “all these while, we haven’t been relating with the police, our relationship is with those involved in the land matter and our job basically is to settle the dispute. Nobody has ever told us that anyone is harassing them and if anybody says he’s writing on our behalf, that person is joking.
