The Nnewi Vigilance Service agents in Anambra State have detained 30 individuals suspected of being involved in cybercrime, kidnapping, and other criminal activities following a raid in the area.
The operation, known as “Operation Sweep,” took place in two buildings at Obiofia, Nnewichi-Nnewi.
The vigilante operations aim to prevent crimes such as armed robbery, child exploitation, and kidnapping within Nnewi.
During the raid, the agents confiscated numerous SIM cards, cell phones, and charms from the suspects. Additionally, several young girls who were allegedly being used by the criminals were arrested.
The group’s commander announced that the suspects have been handed over to the police for questioning and potential legal action.
Furthermore, the facility where the suspects were held has been closed by the Vigilante Group in order to conduct further investigations.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), acknowledged the event and stated that an investigation had already been launched.
“The command has received the suspects and interrogation has commenced,” he said.
