President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for Ambassador Desmond Akawor to be appointed as a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). This appointment is still pending confirmation from the Nigerian Senate.
In a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, it was mentioned that Ambassador Akawor, who represents Rivers State, is being appointed due to the unfortunate passing of the previous commissioner from the state, Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple, earlier this month.
Ambassador Akawor has previously served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, as well as held positions such as Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory, Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services).
The President tasked the new commissioner to deploy his robust experience across tiers of government toward the comprehensive reformation of processes that will ensure the most efficient and productive utilization of allocations to all three tiers of government.
