Dr Chuma-Odili Harris Udokamma Ogene Ogbunike of Anambra State was sunday honoured with the Ogbunike Merit Award by the Ogbunike Progress Union OPU Aba Branch, Abia State.
Ogene was presented with the award at the Launching of OPU Aba 50million naira hall project cum Merit Awards ceremony by the Exco members of the Union Led by its Chairman, Chief Kenechukwu Okeke (Akajiugo)
While presenting the award, the leader of the OPU Aba Branch, Okeke said the award which was approved by the union, was conceived in keeping with their tradition of celebrating achievements of the illustrious sons and daughters of Ogbunike, and as a way of appreciating their immense contributions towards the growth and development of the community.
He revealed that the decision to honour Ogene was as a result of a thorough survey which they conducted which showed that the Ogene Ogbunike had done well in promoting the rich cultural heritage of Ogbunike.
Comr Francis Igweze of Amawa Ogbunike,currently the NUPENG Chairman of Abia State who represented Ogene at the event conveyed his goodwill message urging OPU Aba to remain united as one, be their brothers keepers and love one another.
Ogene thanked OPU Aba for the recognition which according to him goes to show that his efforts to make Ogbunike great again is being acknowledged. He thanked the President General of Ogbunike town Chief Tochukwu Obiakor (Akudinobi Ogbunike), Chief Kene Ikeche(Ezechidebelu) and other Exco members of OPU Central body for their esteemed presence and contributions at the epoch event, while wishing the current leadership of OPU Aba Branch a successful tenure.
