Tinubu inaugurates first electric taxis in Maiduguri

President Bola Tinubu visited Maiduguri on Monday to inaugurate 107 mass transit vehicles, including 50 electric taxis that were purchased by the Borno State Government.

During the ceremony, the President commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his people-centric policies and projects.

He also revealed the Federal Government’s plan to establish a plant to generate employment opportunities and improve transportation.

Governor Zulum explained that he was inspired to undertake this project after receiving a directive from the President following the removal of fuel subsidy.

He emphasized that the deployment of 50 electric taxis is a groundbreaking initiative in Nigeria and aligns with the urgent need to address climate change.

In addition to the electric taxis, the President also inaugurated 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses.

President Tinubu, who was on his first official visit to Maiduguri, paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi.
