The latest FIFA ranking released on Friday shows that the Super Falcons of Nigeria have dropped two places.
Previously ranked 32nd, they now occupy the 34th position.
Despite this drop, the Falcons still hold the top spot in Africa.
Although the team achieved impressive results in the 2024 Olympics and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ethiopia and Cape Verde, it was not enough to improve their ranking.
In a historic achievement, reigning women’s world champions Spain finish the year as the number one ranked team for the first time.
Former FIFA women’s World Cup winners USA follow closely at number two, with France in third place.
England maintains its fourth-place ranking while Sweden drops to fifth.
The next FIFA women’s world ranking will be published in March 2024.
