The impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been withdrawn by the 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
This decision was announced on Wednesday during a session in the House.
The lawmakers explained that they made this decision as a sign of respect towards President Bola Tinubu, who had arranged a reconciliation meeting between the conflicting parties on Monday.
The 26 legislators, who are loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, gathered at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning to make the announcement.
The tension in the state is said to arise from a power struggle between the governor and Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
