Former President Muhammadu Buhari will spearhead the inaugural Katsina Dialogue, an initiative aimed at addressing the issue drug abuse among youths in the state.

The Dialogue is themed ‘Confronting the Drug Menace: Securing Katsina’s Future’.

Buhari’s involvement underscores the gravity of the issue, according to the organisers, the Katsina Consultative Forum.

At a press conference on Wednesday, the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Danmusa, said, “This is not just a conference; it’s a call to action, a clarion cry for unity in confronting our shared challenges and charting a brighter, healthier future for Katsina’s youth.”

A scholar, Dr Usman Bugaje, with dual expertise in pharmaceuticals and political science, will be leading the discourse.

He will be joined by a panel of five prominent Katsina citizens, including Dr Asma’u Abdulkadir, the Katsina State NDLEA Commandant, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Drugs and Narcotics.

Danmusa noted that their diverse perspectives and deep understanding of the local context will ensure a comprehensive and fruitful discussion.

According to Danmusa, “The Katsina Dialogue is not merely a talk shop; it’s a catalyst for change. It’s a promise to forge a path towards meaningful solutions, effective policies, and concrete action plans. It’s a commitment to equip Katsina’s youth with the tools and resources they need to overcome the allure of drugs and build a brighter future for themselves and their state.
