The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Abia state has been closed down by the state government.
The Secretariat located at 45 Finbers Road, Umuahia, was sealed by persons believed to be officials of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA).The Secretariat was shut down by the officials on Wednesday with no reason offered for the development.
However, a notice pasted on the building urged the occupants to visit UCDA’s office at 51 Ogurube layout, Umuahia for more details.
In a related development, the Abia State chapter of the PDP has demanded the swearing in of Aaron Uzodike of the PDP, as member representing Aba North constituency in Abia State.
The party in a statement signed by Abraham Amah, the party’s Vice Chairman/Acting Publicity Secretary, expressed worry that the Aba North constituency is still without a lawmaker representing them in the Abia State House of Assembly despite the fact that the Appeal Court had declared Aaron Uzodike as the winner of the March 18 election and removed Destiny Nwagwu of the LP.Amah described the situation as impunity.
“It is common knowledge that the only document required by the Speaker to swear in a member into the House of Assembly is the Certificate of Return which was issued to Hon. Aaron Uzodike by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, a few days after the Court judgment and thus made him the duly and validly elected member of the Abia State House of Assembly to represent the good people of Aba North.“Why has the Speaker refused to swear him in?” Amah asked.
