President Bola Tinubu emphasized on Friday that the federal government is committed to utilizing its resources in order to establish peace in the South-East geopolitical zone of the country.
Tinubu made this statement during the unveiling of the Peace in South-East Project (PISE-P) and the Thanksgiving Service/Homecoming ceremony held in honor of Chief Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The event, which saw a large turnout took place at the Sports Arena of Bende Local Government Area.
PISE-P is a five-year program initiated by the deputy speaker to address the complex socio-economic challenges and security threats in the South-East region.
President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighted the importance of the zone as an industrial hub that plays a crucial role in the country’s economic development.
The president expressed the federal government’s concern over the extensive economic devastation suffered by the region due to non-state actors.
“We know that the South-East has weathered too many storms but the current economic stagnation has shaken the foundation of the region.
“We are not going to sit back and watch the fire go beyond what we can handle.
“We are here to extinguish the fire permanently,” He said.
