Popular Nigerian singer, Ayra Starr has publicly issued an apology after a video surfaced on Twitter showing her cultural disrespect during a recent event.
The controversial video captured the singer shaking hands instead of kneeling when greeting the legendary Fuji musician, King Sunny Ade, and other dignitaries.
Taking to her social media accounts, Ayra Starr promptly addressed the controversy, expressing regret for the cultural lapse.
She acknowledged the mistake, attributing it to initial nervousness upon entering the event, which momentarily clouded her judgment.
Ayra starr wrote;
“😭😭 I’m so sorry, I had just walked in, and all the lights and nerves didn’t let me see, but I came back around to greet everyone properly.
“I have never been that girl to be disrespectful.
“I’m a proper Yoruba girl, and the video didn’t start until after I’d greeted Burna’s mom!
“I’m very sorry to the legend, uncle, and King Sunny Ade.”
