Tragedy as Explosion Kills Six Pupils in Borno

At least six persons lost their lives following the detonation of an improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Gubio local government area of Borno State.

The deceased persons were six Quranic school pupils popularly known as Almajirai in Hausa parlance.

The tragedy occurred when a scavenger picked up several metallic objects and scraps among which was an IED and stored them in a building in close to a Tsangaya school.

Unfortunately, the scavenger was unaware that among the collected metal was an abandoned undetonated IED, which exploded at approximately 2pm, claiming the lives of the children and causing severe bodily harm.

All efforts to get confirmation from security agencies on the incident proved abortive, but our correspondent who spoke to a security source confirmed the deadly blast and shared pictures of the gory scene.
