My heart goes out to families of the casualties and the entire business community over this disastrous and tragic development.

I urge the government to implement measures to ensure that building projects nationwide meet required standards.

I extend my condolences to families who lost loved ones and offered prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured and eternal rest for the deceased. As we mourn the dead, I wish those receiving medical attention in hospital quick recovery.

This unfortunate incident also calls for attention by regulatory agencies like the JMDB, Anambra State Building Material Laboratory Testing Agency and Others to ensure that all property developers comply with the required and applicable standards to avoid similar occurrence in future.

I am calling on the State and Federal Government to investigate the root cause of the collapse. Anambra State should set up a panel to look into this ugly incident. I am grateful to those involved in rescuing the trapped victims.

I firmly believe that we can stop or minimise building collapses if we adhere to standards and procedures, using qualified and certified Building Engineers and build according to specifications.

Also of concern is the need for the capacity of NEMA in conjunction with SEMA as a first responder to be strengthened for prompt and effective response in times of emergency.
