A former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri has attacked former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi again, saying he is too desperate to become president.
Omokri was reacting to Obi’s criticism of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the death of three students of Nasarawa State University (NSUK) in a stampede while struggling for food palliative.
According to Obi, just a month ago, about seven Nigerians, in a similar sad situation, lost their lives while trying to buy rice cheaper from a customs warehouse in Lagos, saying that the very worsening level of hunger in the nation has continued to claim the lives of innocent citizens.
“Earlier in the month, a report by UNICEF indicated that about 31.5 million Nigerians will face acute hunger and severe food crisis between June and August this year. This is, unfortunately, happening in a country that is richly blessed in human and natural resources, with vast arable lands for agriculture.
“Nigeria should have no business with hunger and poverty if we the leaders were caring enough. It is unimaginable how we have sadly descended to a level where people now take unthinkable risks in order to survive. Now again, our children who were sent to study in a university, challenged by hunger, have lost their lives because of our national unproductivity.
“I do hope that these ugly incidents will nudge our government into taking urgent measures to end the current food insecurity, by moving the nation from consumption to production. We cannot be accepting food aids from war-torn Ukraine, when we have the energetic population and vast uncultivated lands to feed our nation and the rest of Africa,” he said.
Reacting to Obi’s comment, Omokri said “Waziri Atiku is the prominent Nigerian opposition leader. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is also a prominent opposition leader. Yet, you don’t see them celebrating every bit of bad news that happens in Nigeria. That is not opposition. That is desperation. A good opposition leader opposed the government in power. They do not oppose their country’s progress.
“Two students of a State University died in a stampede, because the Nasarawa State Government was sharing palliatives at a time when Muslims are fasting for Ramadan and Christians are fasting for Lent. You could not condole or be sensitive to the situation. Instead, you released a post blaming the Federal Government for something that occurred at a state level.”
Omokri added that “meanwhile, more people died at stampedes in your state when you were Governor. Absolutely nobody politicised it. Please fact-check me, Peter Obi is too desperate to be President, which is not a good sign.
“Those who want to serve the people are usually passionate. They are never desperate. Desperation is a trait of those who want to serve themselves!
“Just watch how his desperate followers will come here insulting. Do you know why they insult? Because they cannot dispute the facts above.
You will always look for stipends. Popinjay, keep making noise, no appointment will be given to you.
