Human rights activist Godwin Offor has strongly condemned the Federal Government’s proposal to increase the minimum wage to N48,000, calling it “pure wickedness” and a “slap in the face” for Nigerian workers.
Offor argued that the proposed amount is grossly inadequate, considering the country’s current economic realities and the rising cost of living. He emphasized that a truly living wage should be significantly higher, around N150,000 to N200,000, to enable workers to meet their basic needs.
Offor’s reaction has sparked a heated debate, with many Nigerians expressing their frustration and disappointment with the government’s proposal. The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has also vowed to reject the proposed wage, demanding a more reasonable and realistic minimum wage for workers.
As the controversy continues, the Federal Government faces mounting pressure to reconsider its proposal and prioritize the welfare of Nigerian workers.
