Sean “Diddy” Combs has issued a public apology after a disturbing video emerged showing him physically assaulting his ex-partner, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel room in 2016.
The video, which surfaced online, shows Diddy hitting, kicking, and dragging Cassie, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation. The incident is part of a larger pattern of abuse alleged by Cassie in a lawsuit filed in November 2023, which included accusations of rape, sex trafficking, and domestic violence.
In a statement released today, Diddy acknowledged his past behavior, saying: “I am truly sorry for my actions in that video. I am ashamed of the way I treated Cassie, and I take full responsibility for my behavior. I know that I hurt and betrayed the trust of someone I cared about deeply, and for that, I am truly sorry.”
Cassie and Diddy settled the lawsuit in November 2023, just a day after it was filed. The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
Diddy’s apology comes as a welcome step towards accountability, but many are calling for further action to address the systemic issues of domestic violence and abuse in the entertainment industry.
“We hope that Diddy’s apology is just the beginning of a journey towards healing and growth,” said a spokesperson for the National Domestic Violence Hotline. “We encourage anyone affected by domestic violence to seek help and support.”
