Bayo Onanuga, a presidential aide, has criticized the ongoing Labour union strike, accusing the union leaders of harming the very people they claim to be fighting for. Onanuga stated that the strike, which has affected government hospitals and left many sick Nigerians without access to medical care, is a form of “politics by other means”.
The aide alleged that many affiliates of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are members and supporters of the Labour Party, and therefore bear grudges against the Tinubu administration. Onanuga emphasized that the issues driving the strike cannot be resolved through blackmail or sabotage, and that labour leaders will eventually need to return to the negotiating table to find a solution.
