Senator Ned Nwoko Calls For The Creation Of Anioma State As The 6th South East State

Ned Nwoko

Senator Ned Nwoko has called for the creation of Anioma State as the 6th state in the South East geopolitical zone, citing the need for balanced representation and resource allocation. The proposed state would comprise nine local government areas, six of which are rich in oil and gas resources.

Nwoko argued that the South East currently has only 15 lawmakers in the senate, compared to 18 from other zones, resulting in inadequate representation and resource distribution. He emphasized that creating Anioma state is not just about increasing the number of states but ensuring fairness and equity.

The proposal has gained widespread support from stakeholders, including the Anioma socio-cultural group, Izu Anioma, Ohanaeze Indi Igbo, traditional rulers, and the political class. Senator Nwoko’s bill aims to correct historical oversight and bring Anioma state into existence, addressing the longstanding imbalance in the South East.
