Police Take Over Rivers State Councils, Block Caretaker Chairmen’s Access

Police

The Rivers Police command has temporarily taken over all the 23 councils’ secretariats as well as critical government infrastructure in the State, denying the newly inaugurated caretaker chairmen access to their offices in all 23 LG headquarters, citing an order from Abuja.

Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara had earlier ysterday sworn-in the Caretaker Committee Chairmen for the 23 Local Government Councils of the State.

However, the police said the decision to take over the councils was taken to forestall more bloodshed and prevent further deterioration of security in the State.
