The police command in Gombe says it has arrested 14 suspects over their alleged involvement in the murder of Abdussamad Musa, a 200-level student of criminology and security studies at the Federal University Kashere, Gombe.
Buhari Abdullahi, the police spokesperson in Gombe, said 14 suspects have been arrested over the incident, adding that four others are at large.
Abdullahi said the knife used in the murder of the deceased was recovered as an exhibit, adding that suspects would be charged in court after the conclusion of the investigation.
Janet Ibrahim, the public relations officer of the university, said the incident happened on Tuesday at about 7pm.
She said the incident started as a minor disagreement between two groups after a football match off campus.
Ibrahim said that after the disagreement was thought to have been resolved amicably, the other group later attacked the compound where the deceased lived.
“This resulted in the stabbing of the deceased on his neck with a knife, and he was rushed to the general hospital in Kashere, where he later died due to excessive bleeding as confirmed by a medical doctor,” NAN quoted her as saying.
The university spokesperson said the deceased parents took part in the funeral service for the late student on July 3.
She noted that the institution does not have control over what happens off campus, adding that it is collaborating with security agencies and community leaders to protect students in the hostels on campus.
