The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has dismissed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to recognize Edozie Njoku as the party’s National Chairman. In a statement, APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, argued that INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal judgment was incorrect and defied logic.
According to Opara, the judgment never declared Edozie Njoku as the National Chairman of APGA, and there is no evidence that INEC monitored any convention by Edozie Njoku. He also stated that the tenure of the National Leadership of APGA, which was the subject matter of the suit, has since elapsed in 2023.
Opara further noted that APGA has conducted its National Convention, which ushered in the current set of National Officers under the leadership of Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa. He emphasized that there is no subsisting judgment of court that pronounced Edozie Njoku as National Chairman of APGA.
The party has instructed its lawyers to challenge INEC’s decision in court, stating that it is a clear illustration of arbitrariness taken too far. APGA reassured its members and the public that Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa remains the duly elected National Chairman of APGA, and the party will overcome this obstacle.
