The Supreme Court has delivered a landmark judgement barring state governors from interfering with funds meant for local government areas.
According to Kamen Chuks, head of media and strategic communications for Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, this decision is a huge plus for grassroot development in the nation. “This development is a highly welcome one, and a victory for democracy. It will trigger grassroot development and ensure that elected local government chairmen are held responsible by the electorates at the grassroot level,” Chuks said.
The judgement aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, who has exhibited the necessary political will to ensure that local governments receive their allocations directly.
