In 2018, Philomena Chieshe, a clerk with the Joint Administration and Matriculation Board (JAMB) at the Makurdi Zonal Office, conspired with her boss, Samuel Umoru, to commit financial fraud, embezzling approximately 35 million naira.
This revenue was generated from e-facility cards used for checking and printing results, change of course cards, scratch cards, question and answer cards, and receipts or tellers.
When asked for an explanation, Ms. Chieshe began to cry and offered various justifications for the missing funds, including a bizarre claim that a mystery snake had been swallowing the money in Umoru’s office, even though it was kept in a safe.
