Governors to Review Supreme Court Decision on LG Autonomy, Says Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has announced that governors will review the Supreme Court’s ruling granting financial autonomy to local government councils. Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, Soludo praised the verdict, calling it “great.”

“The Supreme Court is the final authority, and as a democrat who believes in the rule of law, once the Supreme Court has spoken, it has spoken. Tonight, the Governors Forum will meet to review this,” he stated.

Soludo emphasized that this decision would release funds for local government areas and enhance accountability. “We need to promote accountability and transparency in the utilization of public resources at all levels to alleviate the burden on the common man,” he said.

He reiterated his commitment to holding local government elections in Anambra, a promise he made upon taking office. “When I was elected, I promised our people to conduct local government elections. The first local government election in Anambra was in 1998. We’ve just passed the Independent Electoral Commission Law of Anambra State and are organizing the institutions to hold the elections. It is a promise I made, and I am serious about keeping it,” Soludo affirmed.
