The leadership of the Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria, ELFON, led by Comrade Godstime Samuel has condemned in loud terms the alleged extortion from Nigerians by the Nigerian police force in the name of e-CMR which has to do with Nigerian car owners paying money to be issued another kind of vehicle documentation and registration paper different from the already bring issued by statutory government agencies like Federal Road Safety Corp, Directorate of Traffic and Road Services and Board of Internal revenue incharge of vehicle registration and licensing.

ELFON President accussed the Inspector General of Police of not being sensitive to the high level of hardship being suffered by Nigerians.

“At times I wonder if some of these appointees of Mr. President are determined to help his administration to succeed or they are just after what they will selfishly get out office. Because this request by the IGP concerning e-CMR can trigger a national protest as Nigeria Police is not a revenue collection agency. If the IGP needs record of registered vehicles in Nigeria, he should approach FRSC, BIR or DG of DTRS to collect data of registered vehicles or better still partner with them on what information should be required of vehicle owners during vehicle registration”, Godstime pointed.

The Emerging Leaders leader professed that Nigerians will resist any form of extortion in any guise as he questioned the legal basis for the Nigeria Police Force’s issuance of the CMRIS Certificates, stating that no law had granted the police the authority to issue such licences or certificates to vehicle owners following vehicle registration at the appropriate offices.
