The past three months have been a difficult time for the people of Igboland, as we have lost several prominent sons and daughters who have contributed significantly to our community. In the face of this unprecedented loss, we are calling on our people to set aside the planned protests from August 1st to 10th and instead come together to mourn the passing of our beloved ones.
The Igbo adage “Onye ụlọ ya n’agba ọkụ anaghị achọ Oke” reminds us that when a family is grieving, they don’t have the luxury of worrying about external affairs. Our family, the Igbo nation, is indeed grieving, and it’s time for us to come together to pay our respects to those who have left us.
We remember Ogbonnaya Ọnụ, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Gilbert Obiajulu Uzodike, Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Uba, Onyeka Owenu, and all other Igbos who have joined our ancestors this year. Their contributions to our community will never be forgotten, and their memories will continue to inspire us.
Let us use August 1-10 to mourn their passing, to share stories of their lives, and to celebrate their achievements. Let us come together as a people to support one another in this difficult time.
May the souls of our departed ones rest in peace.
