The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected its chairmanship candidates for the 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) ahead of the October 2024 local council elections. The party had previously elected its councillorship candidates for the 260 electoral wards.
Governor Peter Mbah commended the peaceful conduct of the primary elections, congratulating the winners and urging party faithful to support them.
The chairmanship primary elections saw the emergence of new candidates, with only two former council chairmen, Okechukwu Edeh and Obiora Obeagu, returned as candidates.
The winners pledged to complement the governor’s development initiatives and work hard to win the elections.
Governor Mbah expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and credible process, stating that the party members made the best decisions.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) chairman, Prof. Chris Ngwu, observed the exercise and described it as “credible, free, and just,” ensuring a level playing ground for all parties.
